Every day should be world oceans day, but today has been celebrated at The Ocean Conference which being held under the auspices of the United Nations in New York and aims to support the implementation of sustainable development goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

The BBC Earth team, with narrator Sir David Attenborough, presented a short film entitled “The Ocean and Us” at the opening of the conference:

The results of the 2017 Annual World Oceans Day Oceanic Photo Competition were announced by Ellen Cuylaerts in the UN General Assembly Hall. Congratulations to the many members of the Wetpixel community that were amongst the winners.
