With the exciting news that some of our favorite travel destinations are opening up again, and travel, in general, becoming more possible, Alex and Adam offer some thoughts on how travel has changed over the past two years. They then go on to provide some pre-trip ideas for ensuring that you and your equipment are ready to capture amazing underwater imagery once you arrive at your dream destination!
Although we are all somewhat limited in our ability to travel, this should not prevent us from making plans to do so in the future. His divides his objectives up in terms of how far off they are likely to happen and the time periods that are needed to record specific events.

The UK government has begun lifting the recent restriction on electronics in cabin baggage that were imposed on inbound flights from the Egyptian Red Sea airports at Hurghada and Marsa Alam. Passengers will now be able to carry cameras, laptops and other electronic items in the cabin as was the case prior to 28 July 2017.
There were announcements last week stating that the US Transport and Safety Administration (TSA) was now requiring travellers to unpack any cameras in carry on baggage in order to carry out additional screening. Wetpixel Editor Adam Hanlon recently travelled via the U.S.A. with camera gear and is able to provide some first hand insight into the new rules’ implementation.
Time Magazine reports that following a meeting between US and EU officials in Brussels, the ban on the carriage of laptops in the cabins of aircraft on flights from Europe to the U.S.A. will not be implemented at this time. Instead, officials have agreed to improve cooperation and communication about possible security threats. It should be noted that the original ban on electrical items is still in effect for travelers from several mainly middle eastern destinations.
New guidelines for the transportation of lithium batteries by airlines have been issued. On 8 October, The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a notice effectively prohibiting the carriage of “spare” Lithium batteries in checked baggage. Read through for how this affects the carriage of camera batteries.
The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office is currently advising that foreign citizens should avoid traveling to some areas of Egypt in the light of the current instability. Their advice does not include travel to Red Sea resort areas: “In view of the continued unrest in Egypt, the FCO recommends against all but essential travel to Egypt except for resorts on the Red Sea in South Sinai and those resorts on the Egyptian mainland in Red Sea governorate.”
