Anchovies bring Humpbacks to Monterey Bay

Monterey Bay typically gets a few humpback whales as visitors during the late summer and fall of every year. But with the unusually large numbers of anchovies this year, the bay has been flush with them.

Whale watching boats are reporting almost guaranteed sightings of humpback whales and at times up to 60 whales in a single excursion.

Scientists aren’t exactly sure what has caused the convergence of anchovies in such great numbers, but they are sure that it is spectacular, and fleeting.
