New Englanders Underwater gallery exhibit requests submissions
After a successful showing of more than 200 guests at the opening reception last year, the New Englanders Underwater gallery exhibit is back and requesting submissions. March 5th is the last day for submission of images in need of framing, and the final deadline is March 16th for framed images.
Held at the Dryden Galleries in Providence, Rhode Island, the exhibit opens March 31st and runs through May 19th. There is no charge for showing your artwork, and if anything sells, there is only a 20% commission.
This looks like a great way to have your work featured to a large audience without having to pay or organize your own show. Continue reading for all the details and contact information…

Underwater Photography Magazine Issue 35 is now available for download.
The issue contains articles by Alex Mustard on macro wide angle, as well as various technique, location, equipment, and marine life articles by Aengus Moran, Gerald Rambert, Tim Ingmire and Mark Webster. Don’t miss the environmental section with two articles about climate change by Mario Liberato and Alex Mustard. Also featured are announcements of upcoming events and new equipment of interest to underwater photographers or videographers.

Boston Sea Rovers 53rd Annual Clinic
The Boston Sea Rovers will host their 53rd annual clinic at the Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel in Boston this weekend, March 3-4, 2007. This year’s evening film festival will feature Ernie Brooks as master of ceremonies, with presentations by Brian Skerry, Doug Allan & Sue Flood, Feodor Pitcairn, and team members from the Odyssey Marine Explorations Team.
Daytime seminars include talks by Steve Drogin, Mauricio Handler, John Ellerbrock, Stan Waterman, Eric Cheng, and many more. Also, Berkley White (Backscatter) and Ethan Gordon (Fathoms Magazine) will offer morning workshops on digital photography techniques and Adobe Photoshop.
The New England premiere of the movie, Sharkwater, will take place on Sunday afternoon in one of the seminar rooms.
2007 Moscow Golden Dolphin winners announced
The results of the 2007 Golden Dolphin International Photo and Film Festival have been posted. Included among the winners are Wetpixel members Marco Wannenmacher (n@utilus), Dean Burman (DeanB), and Gyula Somogyi (Jules (Helioxfilm)). Please let us know if we missed anyone!

20 new shark and ray species discovered in Indonesia
After a five-year study of catches in Indonesian fish markets, twenty new species of sharks and rays have been discovered. Fourteen species have not yet been described in scientific journals, and the remaining six include the Bali Catshark and Jimbaran Shovelnose Ray.
The study involved sampling over twenty-two different trips across eleven ports in Indonesia, and was designed to help improve the management of shark species in the area. With the number of Wetpixel members traveling to this popular destination in recent months, a few may have inadvertently photographed some of these new species.
Aquatica announces optical glass macro port lens
Underwater photography housing and accessories manufacturer Aquatica has announced a new optical glass lens for its macro ports.
The BK-7 mineral glass lens has anti-reflection and scratch resistant coatings, will be offered standard starting March 2007, and can be purchased alone to replace the old macro port lens for approximately USD$89.

Review of Water Vision, by Mirko Zanni
Mirko Zanni is a Swiss-born photographer who’s been diving since 1989. Though he was always interested in photography, it was several years before Zanni began shooting underwater.
Despite his relative late start, in 2006, his book Water Vision was awarded the coveted International Prize for Book of Underwater Images at the 33rd World Festival of Underwater Pictures in Antibes. Joining the ranks of Tony Wu and William Tan (2001), and Andrea and Antonella Ferrari (2004), Zanni is one of only a handful of people to have achieved this recognition. Clearly, therefore, you’d expect Water Vision to be good. In my opinion, Water Vision isn’t all that good. Rather, it’s phenomenal.

Nexus announces 4.75” glass dome port for Tokina 10-17mm fisheye
Wetpixel sponsor Marine Camera Distributors has provided photos of a new Nexus dome port designed specifically for the new Tokina 10-17mm zoom fisheye lens.
The 4.75” diameter coated glass dome DP1017-10, estimated to sell for USD$690, matches the 180° to 100° angle of coverage of the lens, and is “another in the line of lens specific ports” offered by Nexus.
